  • Set a Goal for Yourself
  • Listen English Constantly
  • Keep a Notebook
  • Focus on Phrases rather than Words
  • Do not hesitate to Speak
  • Devote Time to Weak Areas

Set a Goal for Yourself

You are in search of a way to learn English faster, so the first thing you need is to set a deadline for yourself. There is so much that such goal setting can do to your progress. When you time your learning you become more ambitious instead of working aimlessly. For instance, write down your goal in a paper, like “ Within 4 months I should be able to have a small talk with my peers”. When you set goals, make them attainable, clear and specific like the one above.

Listen English Constantly

Little effort and lots of gains is the advantage of listening to English daily. When you make your ears comfortable with English, you unconsciously catch sounds, words, accents, grammar and sentence patterns. It’s a natural way your brain grasps a language.

  • Surround yourself with English speakers whenever you can.
  • Listen to English songs while you are busy with some other activity or play them aloud in your room
  • Watch English movies, listen to audiobooks, or simple podcasts.

You will not realize how much English you will learn without paying much attention.

Keep a Notebook

No, we won’t advise you to practice grammar rules and spelling by writing them down. This notebook is your reference tool during your English learning journey. During your listening sessions, you may come across certain phrases or lines that are new but good sounding. Immediately you can take note of this information in a notebook or a note app on your phone. After which you need to practice reading them regularly.

Focus on Phrases rather than Words

Writing down new vocabulary and studying them can be exhausting, moreover, you do not have much time to spare. Learning new words alone will not make you good in complete sentences. So what you need to do is to learn phrases or sentences where these words can be used. For example, take the word “slip”, Below are two sentences using this word
Sentence 1-  I saw him slip the notes into his pocket
Sentence 2-  Did you slip down the stairs?

The same word is used in two different contexts and has a completely different meaning to it. Therefore, when you learn a sentence you learn more information about the words and where they can be used. Also, whenever you learn sentences, never attempt a word to word translation as it results in zero improvement.

Do not hesitate to Speak

No matter how much you try learning English, you won’t become good at it unless you start speaking. Speaking is an active exercise and you might hold back from speaking because you fear making mistakes. It’s perfectly alright if you get stuck but not right if you delay your speaking exercise. Take charge of every opportunity you get to speak. Make mistakes, stutter but do not stop speaking.

You can search for native English speakers to have a language exchange.

Do not have a partner to speak to? Then talk to yourself loudly, in your thoughts or using the To Fluency Method. Using this method you need to first, listen to a sentence and then record yourself saying it. Later listen to your recording, identify your faults and try imitating the original.
If you are an intermediate English speaker then an advanced English training course can guide you to start speaking English fluently and confidently.

Devote Time to Weak Areas

Even while you stick to the deadline, you need to invest time in areas where your English needs repair. It can be anything from spellings to pronunciation. Identifying your weak spots will keep you focused. It’s also important that you practice daily in these areas and not just on weekends alone.

Above all, you need to remember the fact that you are looking to learn a language faster, which requires more sweat and hard work. All these 6 steps are a way you can speed up your English learning process but are no shortcuts to success. Stay positive and practice wisely.  You can improve your English language skills by engaging in public speaking. As well as improving your public speaking skills, the Public Speaking Course also improves your vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, listening comprehension, fluency, and confidence in English.
